Tis the season for all things hot chocolate! From chocolate bombs to homemade recipes, we are sharing all of our favorites for you to create the most memorable hot chocolate bar, or perhaps just a cozy, no fuss after school snack. This year I found the most fun chocolate covered marshmallow toppers for our mugs & some jumbo peppermint + white chocolate covered pretzels. So I surprised the girls after school yesterday to celebrate their last full day before winter break! Secret ingredient: always a heaping spoonful of Nutella!!
Rounding up all of our favorite recipes, garnishes & more!
COCOA // Make your own from scratch, grab a box of SwissMiss, or some gourmet GHIRARDELLI HOT CHOCOLATE. For a larger group it’s also fun to have a few different options. I’ll include some ideas below!! These COCOA BOMBS also make a fun addition for the kiddos!!
MARSHMALLOWS // Try not to eat all of these SMASHMALLOWS while setting up. They aren’t kidding when they say “Snackable” on the packaging. They’re delicious, GLUTEN FREE, and even those who don’t like marshmallows with LOVE them!! If you’re lucky, you might find some holiday flavors at your local Target. I also LOVE these MINI SNOWFLAKE MARSHMALLOWS.
TOPPINGS // Whip cream (if using store bought, wrap a piece of cardstock around the can to hide the label) or make from scratch and serve in a fun dish!! Sprinkles, because they make everything more festive!! This is a great VARIETY PACK and I also love the convenience of these CANDY CANE PIECES that are already broken up!! Or make your own like THESE CUTIES!!
MUGS // You know I’m a sucker for holiday mugs and love gifting myself a new one each year. And one of my favorite stores of all time has the CUTEST SANTA MUGS!!! And would these IRISH COFFEE MUGS not be so cute with whipped cream and a candy cane?! LOVE!!
SERVING DISHES // I’m obsessed with Anthropologie’s matte bowls, and their MINI BOWLS and LATTE BOWLS would make the perfect dishes to serve toppings in!!
A couple other honorable mentions…the cutest CLASSIC CANDY because they are SO FUN and add color and texture to your display!! Cookies!! Because why stop at hot chocolate!? These GINGERBREAD MEN or CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CRÈME FILLED WAFERS are a quick grab but you can also serve homemade sugar cookies. You can find my GRANDMA’S RECIPE HERE!!
In case you want to change things up a bit, here’s a roundup of a few festive twists on the ol’ hot chocolate recipe!!
