A tried and true sugar cookie recipe from my grandma, forever my favorite, forever nostalgic. Hope you love them!
Sugar Cookies
Cream together: 1 Cup Sugar, 2 Sticks Softened Butter. Add: 2 Eggs, 4 Tablespoons Cream (Half & Half), a smidgeon of Vanilla. Mix Together. Then Add: 3 Cups Flour, 2 tsp Baking Powder, 1 tsp Baking Soda. Mix well (I used my hands here). Refrigerate dough at least two hours. Roll, cut & bake at 350 degrees for about 6-7 min.
Buttercream Frosting
1 stick softened, salted butter
2 cups powdered sugar (keep extra on hand if you need to thicken at the end)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of whole milk
Combine all ingredients in a bowl & blend with a hand mixer. Add more powdered sugar as needed.
Also to add, sometimes I don’t wait the full two hours (because I’m impatient and a rule breaker). I like to roll them out pretty thin, if they’re thicker they will take longer in the oven, if they’re really thin, the last batches will only take about 5-6 minutes in the oven!
If you’ve already been making this recipe or try it for the first time this year, please share in the comments or tag me on Instagram @jlgarvin, it makes my day every time I see them! XO
