My very first baby is headed to Kindergarten this year & I am a complete mess over it. Sending your little one out into the big world (full of big kids!) is so much to handle, I fully intend to spend as many of my free hours volunteering in her classroom or at least sneaking in for lunch. Harper is so much braver than I am, she has been talking non stop about how she can’t wait to meet her teacher and make new friends, and to finally get to have a folder again! Sweetest girl. While I try to take my mind off of the hard stuff, we are taking the easy way out and talking about back to school styles!

Harper picked the cutest sparkly high tops & a few dresses that she loves (like the pink ballerina one above!). We are adding in some layers for cooler weather, some versatile pieces like a denim jumper that can be worn with short or long sleeves underneath (or a sweater over top), lots of sequins and the CUTEST backpack (similar one here) that we plan to accessorize with some fun tassels or patches! I also love to have lots of cartwheel shorts on hand so she can wear dresses as much as she wants (which is basically every day!) until we pair them with leggings or tights later in the season.
I loved reading all of your sweet advice on my Instagram post about kindergarten, if you have any other tips for the transition we would love to know! And where are you shopping for back to school this year?! Happy almost weekend, friends!! XO

It’s definitely harder for the parents than the kids! I cried for weeks before hand lol and was so nervous the first day for her. She was like peace out mom. She was super whiney the first couple of weeks after school adjusting to such a long day. But after that it got better. Can’t believe I’ll have a first grader next year ?

We always have a back to school dinner the night before the first day! I make homemade alphabet soup and alphabet breadsticks and give the kids their new back packs and supplies. They are so excited for the dinner that it makes their first day of school fun and exciting. It’s one of my favorite traditions.

I loooooove that backpack! I haven’t found any cute ones yet, so glad you shared! Also kindergarden is hard! My girls were so exhausted and overstimulated they really seemed like different kids for the first two or three weeks, but it gets better and you are an amazing mom so you will all do so great!

Have you read The Kissing Hand to your kids? It’s a must before sending your kids off to school!

My daughter is dress obsessed as well and yes lots of bike shorts for underneath. Plus she is thrilled she can wear open toe shoes, her current daycare mandates closed toe only. Bring on the sandels! I cannot get my girl to wear jeans but I did just snag a pair of overalls that I am hoping she’ll wear. My daughter is determined to get a pottery barn backpack, matching lunch box and thermos for her back to school endeavors – She likes to magazine shop. So we have started placing our order. It makes me cry just thinking about it!

Harper doesn’t like jeans either, but does love her overalls! 😉 Jeans are just so hard for them to run around in, I don’t blame her, I don’t like them either. ha!

I can’t believe you are starting school already?!! We still have one more month of summer in Minnesota. Online shopping for school supplies has made my life so much easier. I hate supplies shopping with my 2 boys. Always ended in arguments and carts being rammed into my ankles. I asked my boys what color folders, notebooks they wanted and target took care of the rest ?? The first week is the hardest but it does get easier. The freedom a couple of days a week too is also amazing.
Enjoy this new stage ❤️
